ReportNet - First impressions

With Impromptu support being discontinued in 2010, I have started evaluating ReportNet as the long term replacement solution. My initial fear that the web based application would be slow turned out to be ill founded. I have always been a little skeptical of web based applications because they fail to take advantage of the very powerful desktop processors that are now pervasive in any enterprise. The Report Studio interface was a pleasant surprise because it is very responsive and full featured.

The ease of scheduling reports has made it trivial to implement some automated "detect" controls for erroneous data entry. There is however a fairly steep learning curve. I had to spend time searching for functionality such as advanced filters, footer and header management etc. In the next few weeks I will put together a table to help long term Impromtpu users locate corresponding functionality in Report Studio menus.
